Volume LTL (VLTL) Booking & Billing Requirements
Volume LTL (VLTL) is a standard service enabled for SmartTMS clients unless disabled by request. Quoting VLTL alone does not guarantee the rate.
Booking Is Required
- A carrier-specific VLTL quote number is only generated once the shipment is booked in the AFS system
- Running a quote without booking does not obligate the carrier to honor the rate
Billing Requirements
- Booking triggers internal processes required for accurate billing
- If a client uses their own BOL, they must still:
- Book the shipment in AFS
- Manually include the VLTL quote number
- Use the Bill To information shown on the AFS BOL
- VLTL uses a different Bill To than standard LTL
Dispute Limitations
- AFS may attempt to dispute unbooked VLTL shipments
- VLTL rates cannot be guaranteed if the shipment was not booked correctly
Client Access Management
- VLTL should be disabled for clients who only use the system for quoting
- VLTL should remain enabled only once the client understands booking and billing requirements
Key Takeaway
VLTL rates are not secured by quoting alone.
Booking is required for rate validity and billing accuracy.
